2012: Overhyped?
I watched a few videos on Youtube a little earlier and the video you see below is a perfect example of what I think could be considered overhyping 2012 (I didn’t post a few others because of their tasteless nature)…
This video talks about droughts, famines, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, wars, etc,. … but haven’t these been around since the beginning of mankind?… We will freak out over armed conflicts today but glorify the bloody history of ancient empires like Greece and Rome in epic movies like “Gladiator” and “Troy”… they experienced droughts, famines, floods, (maybe not hurricanes or tsunamis because of geographic location), and they definitely threw enough spears at each other to constitute at least a few wars to the credit of each empire…
So I beg the question… what is so different? About the only difference that I can find is that we live in the “Digital Age” where information is readily available from practically any corner of the earth and easily over hyped… How “easily over hyped”?
Just throw a bunch of sensitive key words at a group of people and watch what happens… Need I remind anyone about “weapons of mass destruction” and “war on terrorism” as perfect examples of over hyping something that turned out to be more hot air than any balloon ever used to get off the ground?
How is it that societies without plumbing and spears for advanced weaponry forged global empires without fear but we today in a time of abundance in information, knowledge, technology, psychology, etc,. are being paralyzed by fear over something that in all reality only exists in our imaginative minds?
